Me.
When I make a piece of art, I want it to tell a story, to have a message. I want my work to have its own voice, to be able to metaphorically stand and speak for itself. I want it to stick out in the crowd and make the audience question what they accepted as fact beforehand. I think that the most meaningful works are ones that can affect the viewer, and that have a lasting impact, or make you think. Art isn't just about what looks pretty, or what the rules say is right. Sometimes it's grotesque, macabre, or unsightly-- and it's done purposely by the artist in an attempt to pass inspiration on to the audience.
I'm slowly learning how to manipulate media to have just that effect. I don't like to stick with brushes, acrylics and oils. In order to grow as an artist, I feel the need to push myself to explore new ways of creating works. I love sculpting, because I feel the need to work with my hands to get the form just right. Despite this, I also love photography and creating digital collages out of the photographs that I take. I've even experimented with using makeup as a medium-- and it worked quite well, to my surprise. It may have been an unusual tool to use in the creation of the piece, but I deem it necessary to go to such lengths to get my message across.
